eFTI Connect Is Now eFTI-Ready: Your eCMRs Reach the eFTI Gate on Their Own

The new version of eFTI Connect brings an eFTI module that synchronizes your issued eCMRs with the eFTI gate of your choice automatically, in the background, with no extra step for dispatchers or drivers.

Today we are releasing a new version of eFTI Connect, and it brings the most important addition since launch: an eFTI module. It turns eFTI Connect from an eCMR application into an eFTI-ready platform. Every eCMR you issue is now synchronized with the national eFTI gate of your choice automatically, in the background, without your team having to do anything differently.

Important: eFTI Connect is not yet a certified eFTI platform. Certification is still ahead of us. What the new module can already do is "speak" with an eFTI gate: it exchanges data with the gate exactly as the eFTI standard prescribes, and we tested it on a demo gate, the EFTI4EU reference implementation, not on a live national gate.

Why this matters

From 9 July 2027, the EU's eFTI Regulation (2020/1056) obliges authorities in every member state to accept freight transport information shared electronically through a certified eFTI platform. An inspector at a roadside check or a border crossing will no longer need to ask for a piece of paper. They will look the consignment up through their country's eFTI gate, and the gate will fetch the data from the platform that holds it.

That only works if the platform keeps the gate informed. The eCMR alone is not enough: the gate has to know that your consignment exists, under which vehicle and trailer plates, and when it was taken over. And when an authority asks, the platform has to answer, showing exactly the data that authority is entitled to see and nothing more. The eFTI module does both.

What the eFTI module does

It registers every issued eCMR with the gate. As soon as the sender seals an eCMR, the module sends the gate the consignment's identifiers: the vehicle and trailer registration plates, the transport mode, and the takeover and delivery times. That is enough for an authority to find the consignment. The document itself stays with you.

It keeps the gate up to date. When something changes, say the truck is swapped mid-route or the delivery is confirmed, the module notices within seconds and sends the gate the updated identifiers. A nightly reconciliation compares everything again from the start, so nothing slips through if a connection drops for a while.

It answers authorities in the format the standard prescribes. When an inspector requests a consignment, the gate calls eFTI Connect and can name the data subsets that inspector is entitled to. The module then returns only those fields, in the format the eFTI standard prescribes. A request that names no subsets receives the full eFTI dataset for the consignment — which is how the reference gate asks for data today.

It accepts notes from authorities. If an inspector attaches a note to a consignment (a follow-up to a control, for example), it is received and stored with the eCMR it refers to. Showing these notes to your team in the office app is part of the next step.

Drafts stay private. Only eCMRs that the sender has sealed are ever registered. A document you are still preparing is never visible to anyone outside your company.

The gate of your choice

The eFTI framework is national: each member state runs its own gate, and authorities in other states reach your data through gate-to-gate exchange. That is why the module is configured per customer. You choose the gate you register with, and the module connects to it over the gate's REST interface. Moving to another gate later, for example one that only comes online after launch, is a project we plan together with you, not a new product.

The module is optional and switched on per instance. If you do not need it yet, nothing changes for you. When you are ready, we turn it on.

Nothing changes for your team

Your dispatchers create eCMRs exactly as they did yesterday. Your drivers sign, hand over and photograph exactly as they did yesterday. The synchronization runs quietly in the background. It needs no button, no export and no second system to log into. This was our design goal from the first day: eFTI readiness should cost the carrier nothing in extra clicks.

Built on the EU reference implementation

We did not build this from a reading of the regulation alone. The module was developed and tested end to end against the EFTI4EU reference implementation, the open-source gate that the European eFTI4EU project provides for member states and platform providers. Our tests register real eCMRs with that gate, look them up as an authority would, request specific data subsets and send follow-up notes, checking every message against the official eFTI XML schemas along the way.

What comes next

Before July 2027, eFTI platforms will have to be certified by accredited conformity assessment bodies, and national gates are still coming online across the EU. The eFTI module is the technical foundation for both steps. The data mapping, the subset filtering and the gate connection are already built and working. The next steps are bringing the module's status into the office app, so your team can see at a glance which documents are registered and read the notes authorities have sent, and connecting to national gates as each one opens.

If you are an eFTI Connect customer and want the eFTI module switched on, or if you are still deciding how to prepare your company for 2027, write to us. We will be glad to show you how it works.
